International Research Group for the Conservation of Medicinal Plants

The website for the International Research Group for the Conservation of Medicinal Plants is accessible on-line at www.irgcmp.org

It is estimated that between 15,000 and 50,000 medicinal plants are under threat of extinction (New Scientist Jan 09), mainly due to the increase in demand for herbal medicines in the West. Approximately one fifth of medicinal plant species are threatened. Climate change and deforestation are also factors to consider in the future.

This newly formed group of researchers, practitioners and educators focuses on research into and education about the conservation of medicinal plants. It will be a source of information, research discoveries, links for further information and plants.

Three week live-in intensive
There are still places available for a full three weeks immersion into the world of medicinal plants during February 2010. Please see www.herbalapprenticeship.com for details.
